Queensland's first comprehensive university, founded in 1910, is one of Australia's largest and most prestigious universities and the first university in Queensland. In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Queensland's departure from New South Wales, the Queensland Parliament passed a motion to create a university - the University of Queensland.
